Everyone who is registered should have received an email from us yesterday. For the benefit of all, here’s the update:
Waitlist
We’re happy to share that everyone who was on the waitlist was offered the opportunity to participate in the Shuffle this year. Thank you to everyone who withdrew and made their place available to someone on the waitlist.
Withdrawals/Changes
We need to know if you are coming by Wednesday! Some people either don’t show up or wait until the last minute to withdraw. This causes great expense and hardship and puts the event at risk for everyone. Sadly, we’ve had to put penalties in place. See the FAQs under “How do I withdraw or change my information?” and “The Wall of Shame”.
Check-in
Everyone will pick up their bib number at the Shinglemill. There is lots of free parking and a place to leave drop bags. The check-in table will be open from 06:45 and will close after the last bus leaves for the start at about 08:10. We have four (4) buses. As soon as a bus is full, it will leave for the start area on Malaspina Road.
Start Area
For the safety of everyone, only buses, emergency vehicles, Shuffle volunteers, and registered Shuffle participants will be allowed in the start area. There will be portable toilets and a place to leave drop bags. There will be no food or water at the start area.
A reminder that if you plan to get dropped off at the start, please be sure to say ‘goodbye’ to your partner, your kids, your friends, and your pets at the corner of Highway 101 and Malaspina Road. (There’s a good place to park and turn around at the mailboxes.) Be sure to have a friend sign you in and pick up your start number. It’s about 1-km walk/jog to the start area. Any participant who takes a vehicle past the corner risks getting kicked out!
Trail Status
The trail is in excellent shape. There are no changes to the course this year.
08:45 Official Start
Expect a welcome from the Shuffle Director (the guy in the Hawaiian shirt), Tla’amin elder aasheelth (Andy George) and a few words from Shuffle elders Eagle Walz and Scott Glaspey.
Start Smart
After Scott fires the starter pistol, roughly 275 people will be funneled into a narrow trail. Avoid frustration by seeding yourself (faster toward front, slower toward back). Hikers, please go immediately right onto the trail. Runners, please take the road about 200m before entering the trail. It’s the same distance.
15:00 Awards @ Shinglemill
Stick around and enjoy your free drink (ticket will be on your number bib)—and maybe a warm meal—with fellow Shufflers, family, and friends. Meet the fastest man and woman. See the trophy.
